Built to be genuinely useful

Credits are weighted

A four-credit subject moves your average twice as far as a two-credit one. Averaging the grade points directly — the common shortcut — gives a different and wrong answer.

Why the credit weighting matters more than people expect

A grade point average is the sum of (grade point × credits) divided by the total credits — not the average of the grade points. The distinction is invisible when every subject carries the same credits and significant the moment they do not.

Take four subjects: three two-credit ones at 9 and one six-credit project at 6. The unweighted average is 8.25. The correct weighted average is 7.5. That is most of a grade band, and it is the sort of gap that changes which classification a transcript falls into.

What this cannot tell you

It cannot tell you your official result. Institutions apply rules this calculator has no knowledge of: a backlog subject that is excluded until cleared, a best-of-N rule that drops your weakest paper, a practical component graded separately, rounding applied at a particular stage.

Treat the number here as a good estimate and the transcript as the answer. Where they disagree, the institution's rule is the reason, and it is worth finding out which one — the same rule will apply again next term.
