Why the classic format still works

The white-capitals-black-outline format survives because it solves a real problem: text laid straight onto a photograph is unreadable wherever the background is busy or bright. The outline guarantees contrast everywhere, on any image, without you thinking about it.

Most meme sites get the mechanics right and then charge for the exit: the free download carries their watermark, the clean version needs an account or a subscription. The joke is yours; the corner advertisement is theirs.

This one draws the caption on a canvas in your browser and hands you the pixels. There is no watermark tier because there is no tier — what you see in the preview is exactly the file you download.

Getting the text right

Captions are set in a heavy condensed face where your device has one — Impact on most computers — and a bold sans elsewhere, always in capitals. Size is set as a percentage of image width, so the proportions hold whether the template is 500 or 2,000 pixels wide.

Shorter is funnier. The format reads at a glance in a scrolling feed, and a caption that wraps past two lines starts covering the picture that carries the joke. If you are fighting the size slider, the caption usually wants editing instead.

The text is baked into the pixels, exactly as previewed. WhatsApp, Instagram and X recompress what you post, and crisp outlined capitals survive that recompression far better than thin or coloured lettering would.

What this tool deliberately is not
