What size photo does the railway application need?

Specifications differ between boards and notices

RRB and RRC recruitment is run by regional boards, and the photograph and signature requirements are published in each centralised employment notice. They have not always been identical between notices, so the figures to use are the ones in the notice you are applying under.

The upload stage typically validates format, dimensions and file size independently. A JPEG at the right dimensions but slightly over the size limit is rejected, as is a correctly sized PNG where JPEG was required.

Preparing once for several applications

Candidates commonly apply to several recruitments in a cycle, and the specifications are similar but not the same. Keeping the original high-resolution photograph and re-deriving each version from it is better than resizing an already-resized file.

Each pass of resizing and JPEG compression loses a little more, and by the third derivation the artefacts are visible. Going back to the original each time costs nothing and keeps every upload as clean as the first.
